Smallville Season 8

I know and you know all the Smallville Seasons after the second one were crap, just a waste of time, only from time to time a good episode. we already hate Lana Lang, she was just annoying.

But now, after Lex Luthor und Lana Lang are gone from the picture, actually the last season was quite refreshing. new faces, new enemies, new friends.

Clark is starting to see Lois Lane with different eyes, and this is definitely worth watching with your girlfriend.

Valkyrie Movie - Stauffenberg, Wolf's Lair

I didn't think this movie can be that good, Tom Cruise doesn't strike me as a very solid actor, and let's face it, we knew that his character wasn't going to succeed in killing Hitler. But the thing is we see in Valkyrie that Cruise almost succeeded. The suspense was great, I was in the second part really on the edge of my bed. The story of colonel Stauffenberg is really one good made and put into images. Hitler was hell of a lucky one, surviving that C4 blast. Thank god he killed himself months later, probably he got bored with all the failed assassination attempts. It was quite fascinating to see how well organized and in place was the german power machine, especially the highly trained SS army. How many failover systems and triggers (like the Valkyrie operation) they designed, in order to restore power.

I liked Tom Wilkinson' character very much, the general Fromm, he was like a snake, very careful taking sides, not taking any action but waiting on the outcome. I think he knew the whole time what Stauffenberg has in mind, but kept quiet about it. In the end, seeing that the outcome is not favorable, he switched sides, and put the coup members to the firing squad. Great surviving skills, I might say, general Fromm did survive this, but not for long, luckily it was still war going on, and the allies were on their way.

Again I thought about visiting the well-known Hitler residences, the palaces in Austria and the bunkers in wolf's lair. The imagery in the Valkyrie film is great.
Don't see the movie on a Sunday, it's kind of deep, Valkyrie is not a popcorn movie.

here's the trailer:

Doubt Movie :) many oscar nominations

but nada in the end for Meryl Streep. She waited with her posse the whole evening at the Academy Awards, but there were only compliments and smart jokes that she received.
Kate Winslet for example said something like: I can't believe I'm on the same listing with Meryl Streep, but I'm glad I got this Oscar. Meryl, you have to suck it up!

It’s 1964, St. Nicholas in the Bronx. A charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the schools’ strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the iron-gloved Principal who believes in the power of fear and discipline. the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Miller. But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her guilt-inducing suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius sets off on a personal crusade to unearth the truth and to expunge Flynn from the school. Now, without a shard of proof besides her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius locks into a battle of wills with Father Flynn which threatens to tear apart the community with irrevocable consequence.

Inkheart - adventure with Brendan Fraser

Inkheart is a very enjoyable film, Paul Bettany's performance as Dustfinger , he absolutely stole the film. Did anyone sense that sexual tension, the
Dustfinger's "love-hate" attitude towards Farid and Farid's attachment to Dustfinger?

The Inkheart story is ingenious and bright, the directing from Ian Softley is fast-paced. they took the book from Cornelia Funke and put it into film version, with a few (major) changes

Brendan Fraser can make any character or object from a book come to life and he discovered this power too late. When his daughter was a small child, he read her the book Inkheart, unleashing the Dustfinger (Paul Bettany) and the bandit Capricorn (Andy Serkis) and his gang. As they came out, his wife Ressa (Sienna Guillroy) went in. 9 years later, Mo is traveling with his daughter Meggie (Eliza Hope Bennett) to live with the Aunt (Helen Mirren), but more importantly to find another copy of the book so he can set his wife free. Just he is confronted by Dustfinger, who desperately wants to go back home, and Capricorn, who has built quite a life for himself in the real world and wants Mo to read to make him more dominant, including putting the baddest villain from Inkheart, The Shadow, in his control.

Slumdog Millionaire - Oscars - great indian movie

this should get the Oscar , Slumdog Millionaire is geniusly simple but very powerful in the message. You don't want to live in India, all is dirty, dangers everywhere, very bad people looking for small helpless children. You can only rely on yourself to find a way to survive. Life is tough in the slums, bad things happen, parents get killed, children get mutilated, only the smartest and strongest can survive. Two brothers start living on their own after their mother gets murdered in a revolt. They meet Latika, another girl without parents, and try to find ways to live. They fall prey to a child molester, who wants to use them as beggers, but first they have to learn how to sing, and steal, and cheat.
The two brothers escape eventually but lose Latika.

Slumdog Millionaire is a story of survival, love and joy of life, but very tough and gritty. One of the brothers win millions in the popular show 'who wants to be a millionaire'. The questions he answers are really episodes from his life. The struggle to win Latika back from the kingpin is worth seeing.

A lesson of life, in all, a very strong movie, something you won't expect from a indian movie, but of course we should not forget, India created a lot of masterpieces with many talented actors. Anyone still know Raj Kapoor? His son Anil Kapoor plays in this one.
Update: WOW, the movie Slumdog Millionaire just received like 5 or 6 Oscars, the best film academy award is what counts. this is on #35 place on Imdb with 8,7/10.

The Unit - cool Delta Force action tv series

I must say, the first seasons were average, Dennis Haysbert was the star, the president from the other good tv series - 24. the episodes were OK, standard situations like covert operations, kidnappings, stealth attacks, rescue missions, all this you can get in The Unit.

5 Delta Force specially trained guys form a very secret special ops unit and perform very top secret missions. they look and act normal on the outside, they have wifes and kids, they have normal problems, but they will kill you on the spot, if that is their mission.

The last 2 seasons were really good, there is no dragging storyline from season 1 that goes on and on, the show The Unit relies only on the episodes storylines, and they are packed with action. The guys go in mission, kill a lot of people, sometimes brutally, and then go home to the wifes, really loving and stuff. There is also smart humour going on, the guys know how to create interesting situations, cool disguises, dangerous roles, you name it. it's not only delta force action, is a lot more.

Robert Patrick, the one that played the T-1000 in Terminator 2, is also an important part of the Unit, playing the ruthless delta force colonel, commanding the unit.

The show is cool and fun to watch, don't miss it.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Brad Bitt and Cate Blanchet playing in 'The curious case of Benjamin Button'. This is a movie you will never forget. The story will keep you awake at night, the narration and the images are perfect.

Although it's easy to see after one hour where the film is getting at and how it will end, actually seeing the last 15 minutes of Benjamin Button it will still blow your mind. The director David Fincher knows exactly what he's doing , he uses Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett to the full extent of their capabilities.
Brad Pitt plays his best game (see Jesse James, Seven years in Tibet, legends of the fall), and Cate Blanchet is different than the one in Lord of the rings.

go see Benjamin Button, you will never regret it!

Pride and Glory Movie - Edward Norton vs. Colin Farrell

Edward Norton I know plays somehow strange roles in movies like Down in the Valley, the Illusionist, the Score, American history X. In the new movie Pride and Glory he is the good cop. The bad cop is Colin Farrell. The issue is again police corruption, not enough money to pay the bills, so start turning the blind eye for some low-life drug dealers with lots of cash.

Things get real ugly real quick, the dirty crew loses 4 men, killed by Tezo, one of the protected drug dealer. Colin Farrell needs to find the guy that killed his men and in the same time tries to cover his tracks with his brothers in law, Edward Norton (good cop) and Noah Emmerich (his CO)

Pride and Glory is a classic cop drama, very violent and explicit, and alos very believable. the quality of acting is what makes the movie great. The ending is disturbing, and it goes deep, makes you think a long time.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona - spanish flavour

wow, what a nice surprise to see such an enlightning movie. Vicky Cristina Barcelona is a genuine Woody Allen film, starring Javier Bardem, Scarlett Johansson,Penélope Cruz, Rebecca Hall.

Two bored american girls (Vicky and Cristina) travel to Barcelona to discover the local culture. Juan Antonio is a local painter who in a very convincing manner seduces both of them and takes them to all the beatiful places in Barcelona and Oviedo.
Javier Bardem, who I only saw in 'no country for old men' plays perfectly this time the spanish playboy, a total change of character I might say.

we get everything in this movie, spanish guitar, beatiful places, great wines, Barcelona historical views. this is a art movie, but very light and funny, so go see it.

Rome - HBO -a must see

now this is a masterpiece. there are only two seasons, but who needs more (this is not ER right?)

Rome is a historical tv drama about the roman empire in the caesar & brutus times. so the action factor is guaranteed.

beeing a HBO production and all, there are no issues with explicit content here, so the violence and sex scenes are all around the place. I think this is what makes the series so good, you really understand how it was like to live in those times, when you see the blood and the killings uncut. I mean, we all know that the roman empire was very advanced (republic, technology & co), but let's be serious, the gladiators were no football players :)

Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson star in this great tv series, and they are doing a wonderful job depicting two normal soldiers in the roman army, taking live and death decisions on a daily basis. the best thing is, the action is based on real events (it's of course sometimes dramatised), so what the characters are doing feels (frightening) real.

After I watched the whole thing, I felt the need to study roman history, to see if what happened in the show is true. especially the ceasar (plaed by a great Ciarán Hinds) death and the aftermath is quite mind blowing. James Purefoy
is very convincing in playing Mark Anthony, who trancends from a genius and powerful war general to a victim of his time, losing himself in intrigues, parties, affairs (of course with Cleopatra of Egypt)

so you really need to see this one. you will see your life with different eyes. :)

Private Practice season 2 - is this for real?

yeah so what can I say? I watched with my wife the whole second season of the tv series private practice, starring kate walsh (the one from grey'S anatomy) and taye diggs (from day break).

and I must say, I rolled my eyes so often that it hurt.
So it's about a group of doctors that start their own private clinic (it'S a grey'S anatomy spin-off ) . 3 men and 3 women, go figure, and of course they already slept together in every possible combination. Gueststars are used to spice up the lovelife of everyone of them.

every episode they have the most interesting (or unbelievable ) cases going on. it seems like the normal people with normal problems don't come to them.

kate walsh is like the star of the show, she tries to give anyone a life lesson. she is the wisest of all :) .
taye diggs is dumbed down to a man who slept only with his ex-wife, and has big issues with normal situations. seeing diggs learning to ride a bicicle is actually funnier than the screenwriters intended.

Anyway, my wife seems to like it in some way, so I guess if you like cheesy drama series, you can give Private Practice a try.
